Having a daily sitting practice is not easy to do. We are not really culturally supported to just sit!

I recently read that in Japan, if a worker sits silently, the worker is left alone, because there is great respect for the need for stillness. A more common experience in the West, is that if you sit still, somebody gives you something else to do!

It has not been culturally supported yet, but if we can each come to respect the reflective life and appreciate space for pure silence in our own lives we can help make it "the norm".
