Before You Begin the Course

Congratulations! Starting the course indicates that there is a part of your consciousness that not only wants to do this, but is also ready for it. There is nothing to lose and a lot to gain! So go forward with enough energy to benefit the most from the experience while trusting the mind that brought you this far.

None of the activities will take long, but to be most effective, they should be done every day. In fact, like learning to play a musical instrument, the more you practice and the more skillfully you practice, the more beautiful the results.

You will not be asked to believe anything, only to be open and to observe your own experience. It is deeply empowering to discover for yourself what is true. You are going to begin giving yourself the gift of quiet, of stillness and of self-intimacy. Your immediate experience is going to become your greatest teacher.

The practices are simple, but profound in their potential. The only thing that can hold you back is not doing them.

Begin your first step whenever you are ready, then do the daily practices, and a step a week for four weeks to complete the First Steps course. Find a comfortable place in your home for formal practice. The space should be relatively quiet, a place and time when distractions can be eliminated or greatly reduced. This is a valuable gift you are giving yourself; don’t let difficulty finding quiet space stop you from making a place for it in your life. In fact, the harder it is to find a quiet space for yourself, the more important it is.
